A currency” for the people by the people” is how Pakcoin views itself. Pakistan’s first cryptocurrency recently passed 10,000 likes on their Facebook page, following a 2 year campaign of trying to capture the imagination of ordinary Pakistani people. Pakcoin founder Abu Shaheer has often commented that due to the international controversy and general misunderstanding about digital currencies, there is an urgent need to educate both the people and government officials of Pakistan about the use of cryptocurrency as a viable form of payment for goods and services, either online or at a local level.

The official Facebook page is regularly updated with financial news, charts and graphics about the performance of Pakcoin against other cryptocurrencies, such as the dominant crypto “Bitcoin”. Recent Facebook posts have also highlighted how Pakistani merchants are turning to Pakcoin not only as an accepted form of payment, but also for offering discounts on goods or services paid for by the Pakistani cryptocurrency.

Pakcoin, like many other cryptocurrencies, is seen by market investors as a potentially exciting investment, with prices surging on a regular basis. Followers of the Pakcoin Facebook page were recently asked to speculate about price predictions for 2019. Amid differing estimated figures and speculation, Pakcoin “hodlers” (people who hold Pakcoin in the hope of it rising in value) anticipate prices may even rise to anywhere between $1 and $5, which many crypto enthusiasts believe may be in line with a general surge in this exciting sector. It’s quite exciting news for investors with the current price standing at just under 1 cent. (Bitcoin has risen from around 1 cent in July of 2010 to over $7000 in November 2017).

Pakcoin followers have also been given the chance of receiving 50 free Pakcoins, another important step Mr Shaheer says for educating people about the benefits of using the Pakcoin cryptocurrency. In a recent “CoinMarketCap” update, Pakcoin was seen as the second biggest mover among all cryptocurrencies when it achieved a 24 hour increase in value of 196.18%. In a recent interview Mr Shaheer said that social media sites like Facebook were playing a very important role in helping to educate people about the advantages of Pakistani people using Pakcoin as a currency, merchants using it as a form of payment and for investors to see that there is potentially plenty of money to be made from the Pakistani crypto.
