OTC Hearing Aids With Multiple Sound Modes: 2024 Comparison Report Released

Nano Hearing Aids (888-310-NANO), a leading provider of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing devices and part of Hearing At Home LLC, has published a new report explaining advances in sound mode customization and how this technology can improve hearing clarity.

In its latest report, Nano Hearing Aids reviews four OTC hearing aid models, including the Audacity RIC (receiver-in-canal) hearing aids, for their sound mode functionality, offering an objective cost-benefit analysis of each.

A key advantage that OTC hearing aids offer adults 18+ with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss is their capacity to perform like prescription hearing aids, but at a much lower price. Consumers can now access these devices without a visit to the audiologist, and without spending $2,000 to $4,000.

Many of today’s OTC hearing aids offer multiple sound modes to help with hearing clarity in different environments; however, as Nano Hearing Aids' report points out, economy-priced OTC devices often lack multiple sound modes while ultra high-end OTC devices can be price prohibitive and often require complex setup processes that can be challenging for those with dexterity issues and those who are less tech-savvy.

“Sound modes in hearing aids matter,” says a spokesperson for Nano Hearing Aids. “Say you're walking through the park while on your way to meet a friend at a café - these two sound environments are very different. Without a choice in sound modes built into your hearing aids, it would be difficult to hear conversations at a noisy café. Sound modes let you adjust your hearing aids on the spot, amplifying or reducing specific sounds as needed.”

The report explains that Nano's mid-priced rechargeable Audacity RIC OTC hearing aids offer three easy-to-adjust sound modes for customizable listening, as well as advanced background noise management and feedback cancellation. Sound modes and volume control can both be adjusted using Nano's intuitive app, or through button control.

In reviewing sound mode capabilities offered by other OTC hearing aids, Nano's report says the economy-priced Audien ATOM PRO 2 devices are small, discreet, and rechargeable, but lack multiple sound mode programming and Bluetooth connectivity.

Sontro's Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids, while similar to Nano's Audacity RIC hearing devices in price, can only be configured using the latest version of the otoTune app and require replacement batteries that last between four to six days.

The report indicates Nano's Audacity RIC OTC hearing aids offer a compelling, user-friendly alternative to higher-priced models, and more versatile sound mode functionality - including Bluetooth mode for streaming music or taking calls - than what lower-priced options can offer.
