2017 has been a very challenging year for many Floridians, some of whom are still displaced or just trying to establish some normalcy after hurricane Irma. The drab backdrop of difficult times provides a stark contrast to the irrepressably sunny approach of one Orlando businessman, Steve Silcock, broker of Bardell Real Estate, who truly loves to bring a smile to the faces of children.
In the weeks following the storm, Silcock directed his considerable energy to helping ensure a very important annual charity fundraiser went off without a hitch, specifically, the 8th Annual Sunshine Foundation Dream Village Gala, on whose fundraising committee he serves each year. The well-attended event, held at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate on Saturday, November 4th, raised more than $115,000 to fund the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children who the organization lovingly call Dreamers.
Guests were treated to a scrumptous dinner, a dance performance by local dance studio Adanse Dance Center, an outcry auction and a silent auction overflowing with fabulous prizes from businesses all over the Orlando region. Then, the audience got to hear from honorees, Dreamers, and their families as they crossed the stage in a veritable parade of inspiring stories.
Of the shining stars who graced the stage, one honoree, a girl with spina bifida who has raised over $14,000 through her lemonade stand to make the dreams of other children come true at the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village, left the indelible impression that an individual making an effort can make all the difference in the world to a child.
As the evening wound to a close, it was clear attendees had become patrons who are now looking forward to the 2018 Gala and opportunities in between to help the Sunshine Foundation put a smile on the face of a child.
