The New York-based care group is committed to helping family carers with these clear online guides and comprehensive overviews, which demystify the often complicated and lengthy process of getting support via the OPWDD.
As their new guide, which is called ‘Understanding OPWDD Services for Special Needs’ explains, while accessing this support can feel daunting, the OPWDD currently offers a raft of services to families who are serving as carers for people with a developmental disability, as well as for the patients themselves.
Home Care Advisory Group particularly recommends that families investigate whether they are eligible for the OPWDD’s Individualized Service Plans (ISPs), which will provide a personalized framework for all state-supported care, one which genuinely reflects the needs and wishes of both the patient and their family.
Their new guide also shows families how they can access the OPWDD’s Day Habilitation programs, which provide meaningful skill acquisition support as well as opportunities for socialization and community involvement. Other meaningful services Home Care Advisory Group’s new overview covers include residential care options, employment assistance including the OPWDD’s Supported Employment Program (SEMP) and family support services like respite care.
They also explain to families how they can access much-needed assistive technology and home modifications via the OPWDD.
