The announcement outlines a renewed focus from the Ontario government to make it easier for international entrepreneurs to start businesses in the wider Toronto area. Immigration intakes over the last couple of years have seen priority given to other groups but recent statements from the legislature have called for a doubling of the current Federal nomination allocation.
The Labour Minister’s most recent statement reports that the entrepreneur project is likely to generate around $20 million in business investment, creating thousands of jobs in the process. The initiative will bolster recruitment across a range of sectors including tourism, IT, and life sciences.
Conditions for applicants include a requirement to invest a minimum of $200,000 into their chosen business. The program hopes to stimulate investment not just in Toronto itself but beyond the urban centres in areas that often get overlooked despite their potential as profitable markets.
The updated program seeks to improve the nomination process for applicants via an expression of interest system as well as redoubling efforts to support companies in their bid to attract and retain top talent – particularly in more rural areas.
EICS is warning that allocations may be filled quickly in the year of 2022 and encouraging entrepreneurs and investors looking to enter Ontario’s economy to apply for a nomination.
