Suitable for practitioners working in salons, spas, wellness centers, and clinics, the recently launched programs comprise online modules and certification exams. In addition, participants have the option of attending a clinic and can add addendums to their training to further specialize in nails, hair, wigs, makeup, massage, med-spas, and end-of-life care.
Learners begin with the online Life Changing Oncology For Esthetics course which can be taken at their own pace. Its topics cover how cancer affects the body and mind, treatments, infection control, product choices, and best touch therapy practices for cancer patients.
Oncology Spa Solutions’ students gain an understanding of the side effects of surgery, chemo, radiation, hormone therapy, and other medications. These include neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, neuropathy, lymphedema, and dermal toxicity. The latter two are the most common adverse effects of anti-cancer therapies which can cause swelling of the limbs, rashes, increased photosensitivity, discoloration, and hand-to-foot skin reactions.
In the course, participants learn safe techniques to reduce skin-related problems and how to make appropriate modifications for their clients’ needs. These include positioning and the use of props, together with pressure, direction, and speed touch therapy adjustments.
Three training packages are available to suit different time and budget requirements. The hands-on portion of the course can be completed online or in person at clinics throughout the USA. All options are approved for 10 CEUs through NCEA‘s Commission on Accreditation.
