ObvioHealth, a Virtual Research Organization (VRO) that is promising to spearhead the digital revolution within health innovation, has published a news article about Asia-Pacific Clinical Trials (APAC clinical trials), noting how the current upward trends within the market have created a number of opportunities for conducting decentralized clinical trials in the region.
The news article also points out that a recent survey, conducted by IQVIA, shows that participants are ready for the virtual transformation, and that among a group of patients at a West China Hospital, 89% of them cited decentralized trials as an accepted form of research. It also notes that within the very same survey, 98% of patients approve of electronic diaries and 96% approve of digital devices as part of a clinical trial.
ObvioHealth pointed out that legacy CROs are currently scrambling around trying to digitize by retrofitting software in order to meet the current needs of site staff and patients, all with limited success. ObvioHealth was purpose-built from the outset to be a digital platform, run by a virtual in-house team.
The article notes that ObvioHealth was the one to develop and launch one of the first patient-centric apps available to download on smartphones, and that it was this very same development that enabled patients to participate in clinical trials from the very comfort of their own home. This, in turn, empowered a virtual team to communicate directly with the patient no matter where they’re located.
There are presently a number of advantages and challenges to clinical research in APAC, however, this hasn’t dampened the outlook; in fact, it’s never been brighter. ObvioHealth has recently completed, or is currently conducting trials in: Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand covering therapeutic areas such as allergy, behavioral health, gastroenterology, mental health, nutrition, oncology and pain management, all using the power of decentralized clinical trials.
