Leading Virtual Research Organization (VRO), ObvioHealth offers a patient-centric mobile app to facilitate clinical trial data collection and compliance. The company’s solution promises to create stronger patient engagement.
Engagement of patients is a hurdle faced by clinical trials, according to the company. The reasons for that can be loss of motivation, difficulty in entering information, inconsistent tracking of symptoms, and patients feeling that they’re not getting enough support.
A lack of engagement, in turn, affects patient retention and data.
ObvioHealth asserts that its app can help sponsors retain patients by keeping them engaged in the trial. In order to do so, the app offers a range of features.
One way the app keeps patients excited about participating is through gamification. It uses metrics like performance indicators and streak trackers to engage their competitive spirit. This motivates participants to record their data and follow protocol, explains the company.
Participants can view their health improvement data, which gives them an insight into their health as well as their health metrics and improvement, protocol permitting. Being able to track their health can keep participants invested in the research, suggests ObvioHealth.
The app also provides notifications and reminders. These ensure that each participant completes their tasks on time and that entering data becomes more regular and convenient for them, asserts the company.
Participants also benefit from a user-friendly UX, claims the VRO. That makes it easier for them to read the instructions and enter information. Since it does away with paper forms, patients no longer have to wait until they can write things down. Instead, the app allows them to note symptoms and record data on their mobile devices.
Finally, in order to address the issue of patients feeling like they were not getting enough support, the app offers on-demand video training as well as a direct line to the Clinical Oversight and Coordination Hub (COACH).
The ObvioHealth COACH team provides the same support to participants as a traditional site team, the company asserts. It also offers near real-time remote patient monitoring and quick responses to patients’ questions and concerns so the participants feel confident, safe, engaged, and heard.
Another way the app keeps participants engaged is through augmented electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO), where they can use audio, video, and image recording to report symptoms. The company explains that the media can then be automatically sent to expert raters for “a streamlined assessment process”.
ObvioHealth’s electronic data capture (EDC) integrates with most FDA- and CE-cleared medical devices. It also connects with over 300 consumer-grade sensors, wearables, and digital biomarkers, claims the company. This feature allows passive and point-in-time data collection and also reduces patient bias.
The business claims that it has been learning what affects patient engagement in clinical trials and how to remedy the issues since its inception in 2017. It says it has been constantly improving and upgrading the app to address those issues over the last five years.
This has culminated in a product that has helped over 60 studies in 26 countries across five continents generate more robust and accurate data. To learn more about the company and the solutions it offers, please visit https://www.obviohealth.com/
