With the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs suggesting that most people will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime that has the potential to cause PTSD, the new therapy option gives more people access to an effective treatment for trauma. Dr. Irada Yunusova, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in PTSD and trauma, works closely with patients to help them heal from past traumatic events at the integrative, cognitive, and somatic levels.

remotEMDR is a new therapy option for clients who do not want to physically go to a clinic but still want to improve their mental well-being. During an EMDR session, a licensed therapist helps individuals confront and reprocess traumatic memories in a structured environment. This is done through bilateral stimulation, often in the form of guided eye movements, that prompts the brain to reevaluate certain information.
The goal of EMDR is to replace unwanted negative thought patterns and emotions with healthier ones to create lasting change. It is primarily used to treat PTSD and other forms of trauma, as it gently helps clients explore their trauma and learn new ways to confront it.
Dr. Yunusova explains that the new video platform allows individuals to receive therapy in the comfort of their own homes. The process, however, remains the same. She works with clients to first understand their goals and then develop a comprehensive plan for how to achieve them. From there, the client is taught how to develop healthy coping skills to manage their anxiety and remain in the present moment as they reprocess their trauma.
remotEMDR involves a range of bilateral stimulation options to help clients relax and reduce the risk of emotional and physiological disturbance.
A spokesperson for the group wrote, "By combining the latest hypnotic techniques, EMDR, aspects of exposure therapy, and mindfulness tools to address clients’ past experiences, they help clients better understand the negative feedback loop between the biological changes which began after the trauma and their current emotional state and responses."
