-- According to an article published by Northeastern University, nonprofit leaders face unique challenges that for-profit CEOs do not, such as engaging unpaid volunteers, reaching out to donors, and messaging throughout their communities. The newly enhanced training packages offered by Mind the Gap Consulting, taught by an industry expert who has run five different nonprofits over his 30-plus year career, are designed to help executive directors hone their skills in these areas and more.

With executive directors of nonprofits often facing unforeseeable challenges, the consultancy has launched 6-month and 12-month one-on-one coaching plans that can help clients overcome a variety of obstacles. During these programs, the company’s resident coach, Sean Kosofsky, helps leaders overcome mindset challenges like feeling overwhelmed or isolated and teaches executive directors how to handle inherently challenging organizational dynamics.
The Washington Post reports that, since 1998, nonprofit employment has grown by 33% - almost four times as fast as the for-profit private sector during that same time period. Executive directors who learn to effectively handle challenges with Mind the Gap Consulting’s help can become more capable leaders in this continually burgeoning segment.
The packages also include the 10-week Leadership Level-Up Program that is aimed at new executive directors and founders. During this course, individuals receive 15 hours of one-on-one coaching, after which they have a year of access to 35 different online leadership lessons and membership in Mr. Kosofsky’s private Facebook group in which he answers real-time questions from various alumni.
Mind the Gap Consulting also offers two coaching options that take place over a single day. Clients can request a one-day VIP training session or sign up to receive 7 hours of on-demand communication and support from Mr. Kosofsky to help handle an especially challenging event.
Mr. Kosofsky became a nonprofit policy and political director in 1996. He went on to become executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina before running a statewide collaboration of over 50 progressive policy and voter engagement organizations known as Blueprint North Carolina. He also ran the Climate Advocacy Lab.
Asked about Mr. Kosofsky’s style of coaching, one executive director remarked: “His depth of experience is obvious and he instills confidence with humility and integrity. Practical tools and examples offer quick impact for value add.”
