Plenty of roofs needed inspection this summer in Englewood as hailstorms hit the town several times throughout 2018. New Roof Plus, with Denver area offices located in Englewood CO, has recently been certified as Haag Certified Inspectors for Residential and Commercial roofing inspections. Haag Certification is the gold standard for certification in the roofing industry.

From large damaging hail to massive flooding, Englewood had its share of roof damage. This is the second year in a row of roof busting hail and wind for Englewood and many other cities throughout the Front Range of Colorado. The insurance industry has been hit hard in Colorado, as some homes even had their roofs replaced twice in the same year!

Home and building owners are often inexperienced when it comes to roof replacement by insurance coverage. They assume every Englewood roofing company is competent and perhaps even licensed. This is not the case. The City of Englewood requires very little compliance or licensing for contractors. Home and building owners need to be vigilant and self-educated on what to expect when it comes to choosing a roofing contractor. Everyone should expect, at a minimum, some sort of Proof of Certification from a roofing contractor.

When your roof inspector is Haag certified for residential and/or commercial roof inspections, you know he or she is expert, tested and experienced at the highest levels for the inspection of your roof. Your roof is important and you should expect your inspector to be experienced and certified.

Each Haag certification requires it’s own skill set. Residential roofs are much different than flat commercial roofs. Each certification has its own set of knowledge that requires study, testing and experience. Both tests require three days of classroom, study and rigorous testing.

Most contractors do not have the drive, patience or determination required to complete these difficult tests. New Roof Plus has completed both certifications. We believe that knowledge is power and will help us to better understand how to diagnose roof problems and devise solutions that are best for our clients.

Haag Certified Residential Roof Inspector requires the contractor to have expert knowledge in identifying roofing issues unique to steep pitch roofs. Water diversion and protection of the home from leaks at roof penetrations are fundamentals for all roof types but residential roofs their own unique challenges. Certification helps one determine potential sources and problems and find solutions to remedy the problem.

Roofing materials are different for residential roofs as well. Common materials include composite shingles. Recognizing issues with these materials give our inspectors an advantage over one who not educated in this area.

Haag Certified Commercial Roof Inspector requires the contractor to become an expert on flat roofing systems and the unique challenges they bring. As with all roofs, the commercial roof is designed to shed water to the outside of the building envelope. Water is the number one cause of damage to buildings so it’s proper elimination is obviously critical. Flat roofs on commercial buildings really are not “flat”. There is a system of valleys and angles with the intent of diverting water along the roof surface to intentional places for the maximum effective runoff.

Commercial Roof Systems vary based on the roof decking and substructure, the size and height of the building plus many other factors unique to building design. The water runoff design will determine the system employed. As a Certified Commercial Roof Inspector, New Roof Plus is qualified to investigate, inspect and analyze multiple roofing systems.

Englewood Colorado was hit with several hailstorms this summer. Some of these storms created damaging flash flooding which made its way into many basements across the Englewood area. Englewood roofing companies, like New Roof Plus, were busy helping home and building owners determine if the hail had caused enough damage for roof replacement.

The city has had several storms over the past years. Reports from this year’s storms were mixed. Some homes sustained enough damage for replacement, while others were only “bruised” by smaller hail. One thing is certain and that is if your garden wasn’t covered, it was turned into mush! Lots of tomatoes turned into soup in Englewood this summer.
