In a win for school choice, the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) School Board approved New Pacific School – Rancho Cordova charter school on Sept. 8. Local parents spoke in support of New Pacific School during the hearing and emailed board members directly to convey their desire for an additional option for families living in Rancho Cordova.

New Pacific School is a small school, open to all students, that builds connectedness between students, family, and school with the unique option of a hands-on and project-based curriculum where the teachers serve as a guide and encourage a collaborative student-centered environment. The school will add middle school in 2024 and high school soon afterward.

New Pacific School is a part of Pacific Charter Institute (PCI), a nonprofit organization established by educators in Sacramento in 2005. PCI has deep experience serving students and families in Northern California, including New Pacific School – Roseville, which opened this fall. With the FCUSD School Board’s green light, New Pacific School members will begin enrolling students at the Rancho Cordova site this coming school year.

“We’ve heard a strong desire for something different from Rancho Cordova families,” said Dr. Paul Keefer, the Executive Director of PCI. “We’re excited to get going and do our part for the community!”

New Pacific School – Rancho Cordova will provide families south of Highway 50 in Rancho Cordova with a small-hands-on school with foreign language and art in all grades, before and after school care, inclusive options for students with disabilities, and whole child approach/inquiry-based learning.

“Students thrive in small school settings and when they are happy and engaged,” Keefer said. “I’m thrilled to bring this option to Rancho Cordova!”
