Steubenville, Ohio – August 31, 2020 – The Carriage Inn of Steubenville is proud to introduce their new Medical Director, Dr. Derek S. Powell. Dr. Powell is a native of Steubenville, OH. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Bethany College in 2004. He graduated from The University of Toledo College of Medicine in 2008, completing his Internal Medicine Residency at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio in 2011. Later that year, he joined Trinity Health System, where he continues to work as a primary care physician.
Joining Dr. Powell in this endeavor is his wife and Nurse Practitioner, April Vella-Powell, APRN-CNP. April is a native of Mingo Junction, Ohio. She graduated from Trinity School of Nursing in 2003. Mrs. Vella-Powell worked at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Wheeling Hospital, and Trinity Health System where she trained in emergency/trauma, as well as cardiac nursing. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Ohio University in 2013. She then attained her Master’s Degree in Nursing at The University of Cincinnati in 2015. She currently works as a primary care nurse practitioner for Trinity Health System.
