Trends around getting engaged and eventually married may be shifting away from traditional ideas according to a new infographic released by diamond jewelry blog Executive Ice. The new collection of data shows that habits are changing when it comes to men and women starting the most serious of relationships in society. Whereas once, tradition defined how people approached the concept of marriage and engagement, today there may be less emphasis on the way things have “always been done,” and more on individual preferences/lifestyles.
The new infographic includes data from several reputable sources including WeddingWire’s 2017 Newlywed Report. The data shows that, among other things, people are getting married older, waiting longer to get engaged and waiting longer between engagement and the actual wedding. Of course, this is not something new – people have been waiting longer for a few years now. But the studies also showed that the rise of technology in the digital age has changed the way many do things.
One of the most interesting aspects of the data included in the graphic is the idea that more people prefer to use social media as part of their engagement and forgo an actual engagement party in real life. The rise of the digital age has had an enormous impact on the way couples are approaching, not only dating, but the next steps in their relationships as well.
A writer from Executive Ice, tasked with creating the infographic, said “The company hoped to get a sort of ‘birds eye view’ of where marriage and engagement was at in culture. Some of the data found and included in the visual representation was kind of surprising. It really seems like ideas of what engagement and marriage is and how it should be approached are changing in 2017 and beyond.”
The new infographic contains over 25 data points from 5 different sources. It touches on dating, engagement, marriage, fashion trends and more all in one well put together visual representation. The image was put together and published online last week to the Executive Ice blog.
