Montreal entrepreneur Bastien Poulain wants to bring a new and original taste experience to the local soft drink market. His creation, 1642 Cola, captures the spirit and flavour of the city in a bottle. Poulain, a 31-year-old Montrealer originally from France, has started an IndieGoGo campaign to finance the venture and is seeking donations to raise $50,000 to make the dream of 1642 Cola a reality. Made with 95% Québec ingredients, including a hint of Laurentian maple syrup, 1642 Cola will offer an alternative to mass market colas and enable consumers to savour a high-quality product that is made locally.
âI wanted to create a taste experience that truly embodies the flavour and spirit of Montreal,â explains Poulain, who has already invested $20,000 of his own money in the project. âMontreal is a city known for its creativity and entrepreneurial energy and 1642 Cola reflects that character. The fact that itâs locally made means itâs better for the environment and our economy. And, with Montrealâs 375th anniversary just around the corner in 2017, 1642 Cola will help celebrate the cityâs vibrant history and culture.âThe name is a reference to the year that the city of Montreal was established, with the package design featuring an image of a proud Paul Chomedey-de-Maisonneuve, the cityâs founder. The concept is to launch a local soft drink produced in Montreal for Montrealers, and its visitors, thus contributing to the economic growth and vitality of the cityâs economy while minimizing the productâs environmental footprint. The money raised on the IndieGoGo campaign will be used to produce the first batch of the product, including the purchase of glass bottles, labels and caps, and will help finance the necessary marketing and promotion.Currently, 1642 Cola will be available in a few weeks in the Montreal area.
