Miniature, micro and teacup pigs are becoming highly popular as pets due to their small size, high intelligence and friendly nature. But miniature pig breeder Joyce Wells says buyers should be sure they’re actually getting what they pay for when they see a piglet for sale.

When celebrity Paris Hilton attempted to purchase a miniature pig in 2009 their popularity boomed. Families looking for a pet discovered that miniature, micro and teacup pigs are highly intelligent, easier to train than dogs, easily house trained, do not shed and like to keep themselves clean.
But many of those families buying a miniature pig ended up with breeds that grew to be much larger than the tiny pigs they thought they were buying. In some cases unscrupulous sellers are simply selling piglets they know will grow to be large, even full sized pigs because the miniature breeds of pigs command a much higher price than regular sized pigs. Some completely unprincipled sellers falsely claim that a miniature pig is guaranteed to stay under a certain weight then recommend a diet that starves the animal and unnaturally stunts its growth.
Miniature pig breeder Joyce Wells says the smallest breed of pigs is the toy pig, followed by the teacup pig then the miniature pig. Generally speaking the smaller the pig the higher the price it commands. Wells says many piglets from reputable breeders cost $2,000 to $4,000 each.
Pigs should only be purchased from reputable breeders with several years in the industry and positive verifiable reviews from happy purchasers.
Joyce Wells says she sells her pigs in the $800 to $1,300 price range because she knows families can’t afford to invest their life savings in a pet…no matter how adorable that pet may be. Her business Angel Enterprise Farm ships piglets by air across the USA and offers quality, healthy piglets that are genuinely the size advertised as a result of over 10 years of careful breeding.
The piglets are already litter box trained to a small area, neutered or spayed, vet checked with a health certificate and their price includes shipping by air to the largest airport near the customer.
