Meeraqi is sponsoring this year’s event, which will present the following plays:

What’s the Meta:

The night has arrived. The seats are full. The audience is waiting. The play is written and the two parts of the play are characters that are getting ready to step onto stage at any moment. However, one part is smaller and less fleshed out than the other part and is feeling unworthy and insignificant in its existence. The bigger and developed part sees this and tries to encourage its counterpart to get ready for the performance. He does so by reminding him of the meaning and collaborative nature of theatre wherein he is nothing without his counterpart. All this is happening just as the curtain opens and…

The Man Who Couldn’t Dance:

What’s entertainment without any love? Two star crossed lovers, Eric and Gail were madly passionate about each other. Gail was madly in love with her man who would be the father of her children in the future, who would keep her happy and on her feet all her life. Until one day, Eric suddenly leaves her alone. With a broken heart and no understanding of what happened. Gail eventually marries another man and settles down in life.

Years later, they meet and remember the times that had once been and the life that could have been. With sorrow in their heart and a fire in their mind, they decide to seek closure from each other. Under heated conversation and because of exasperation, Eric finally succumbs into telling the truth to Gail. He admits to leaving because he couldn’t dance and would never be able to provide Gail with the happiness of dancing as a couple. This story will warm your insides and curl up inside your stomach with the unforgotten regrets fluttering up like butterflies as you try and still heal your broken heart.

The Philadelphia:

Ever heard of a twisted tale wherein nothing happens and if anything does, one doesn’t even know what really did. Here, Marcus, our protagonist is suffering from the worst day possible. Somehow he is caught in a conundrum where the universe is plotting against him. In this state, he is not reaching anywhere he wants to reach, he is trying to do so many things but nothing is happening and all the trying is just frustrating him more and more. He is narrating his depressing tale to his best pal “Al” with a frantic helplessness when Al throws light on what has happened to Marcus. Al tells him that he is caught in a metaphysical funk which is called a “Philadelphia” and the only way out of it would be to ask for the exact opposite of what he intends. So, following Al’s advice; we hope that you hate this show terribly! :p

Sure Thing:

What if we told you that you could perfect your date with someone by revising it again and again and again with them?

In this play, Bill tries to woo Betty at a coffee shop. They have never met before and Bill wants Betty. But as he starts talking, many things go wrong and each time things go wrong, a certain bell rings enabling the duo to rewind and go back to the optimum part of the conversation before it all went downhill. This revised and numerously re-revised conversation ultimately reaches a rehearsed and happy conversation with a happy couple that is delightfully ready to hit things off!

Enter at your own risk!

Ferris Wheel:

Ferris wheels are fun swings that make you see the whole city in one glimpse!

Not for Dorrie! Dorrie was petrified of Ferris Wheels but every birthday, she would gather her guts and go on one to reaffirm her pride and become comfortable with heights. On one such birthday, John accidentally gets seated next to Dorrie and the two get stuck with each other at a high point because of some technical malfunctioning. This leads to a strange and warm love story between the two trapped on top of the Ferris wheel.

When asked about the reasons behind creating this event, the host of the event, Meeraqi in association with Renegade Arts and Theatre Society said:

What is the fun in life without some love, some guilt, some heart break and some exaggeration! Urban daze is a theatre celebration of all our stories. The ones we forget, the ones we have left behind and the one we hope to see. These are 5 theatre plays, set in an urban setting, which daze you with a familiarity that is moving.

There is a reason why we emphasize on you and the familiarity you will feel. This is because these stories are about normal people who have normal encounters with strangers, love, mishaps and even dread. We have all felt the tingles of our first love (I hope we all have), or have had the worst day full of unfortunate events (Murphy’s Law) or stepped in the pile of poop while looking into our phones.

In discourse lies the understanding.

This discourse will be for the audience to participate mentally and emotionally in. but the good thing is that these performances are not very serious; instead they are full of feelings that will make you laugh, cry and even be confused, but that’s the fun part, right?
