Designed as a safe, structured setting in which children can enjoy guided play and develop cognitive-behavioral, social, and motor skills, the sensory gym is available for toddlers, preschoolers, and older children who may need extra developmental support.
A recent report from CBS news shows that sensory gyms are increasing rapidly in popularity, as more and more families realize the benefits of helping children experience this type of interactive play and stimulation. At TOTville, the emphasis is on learning through fun for kids at all levels.
“When combined with other therapies, a sensory gym can amplify results by reinforcing the treatment of sensory disorders,” explains a spokesperson. “Our program increases independence, eases stress in social situations and raises tolerance to new sensations coming from the body and the environment.”
The TOTville sensory gym also includes trampolines, therapy balls, and other tools to help provide proprioceptive and vestibular sensory input. While working with children, the center’s trained therapists help kids feel comfortable while enhancing fine and gross motor skills.
Although nearly all young children can benefit from play with a sensory gym, TOTville is especially suitable for those with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and ADD/ADHD.
Children with dysgraphia and learning disabilities - or any other type of developmental delay - can also benefit significantly from the sensory integration exercises.
Previous families have positive reviews for the sensory gym and TOTville’s services. “The sensory gym was recommended by a close friend; today was our son’s first day at TOTville and he had a blast,” says Lisa M. “Our son is on the spectrum and we are always looking for constructive ways to tackle his behavior and sensory needs. Our first session was fabulous and we’re hoping to make this part of our weekly routine!”
