Satellite Internet service provider Wildblue Exede has announced a major email accounts migration from Google’s Gmail to a new email platform called Zimbra.
Google is ending its Google Apps Partner service for internet service providers like ViaSat, the provider of the Wildblue and Exede internet services, company says. Reasons behind the break up between Exede and Google kept secret but most likely Google’s services prices going up are responsible.
Email service migration has started on August 3, 2015 and will continue on for several weeks. Both Wildblue and Exede have over 500,000 subscribers combined nationwide that will be affected by this move.
New email system, called Zimbra offers sophisticated email, calendaring and collaboration features, online backup and restore. With more than 500 million people using Zimbra worldwide it is a clear why Exede decided to switch email services. Users will enjoy advanced rich browser-based interface with application features such as drag and drop, tagging, conversation views, advanced search, calendar and sharing wizard. Such feature-rich platform should deliver similar to Gmail user experience.
Although, customers will keep their email address and all the mail, Google Apps services will be permanently gone. Exede urges its customers to take action and use Google Takeout to back up vital files and other sensitive data from Google Apps.
