According to a 2022 ARVO study, over 36% of American children aged 5 to 17 are currently affected by nearsightedness. Urban populations show even higher incidence rates, approaching 41%, compared to 15.7% in rural areas. Studies suggest that high screen exposure increases myopia risk by up to eightfold, while consistent outdoor activity—at least two hours daily—can significantly mitigate the condition's onset.

Left untreated, progressive myopia can lead to increased risks for retinal detachment, glaucoma, and cataracts later in life. As such, early management is considered essential for preventing these outcomes, particularly in children with moderate to high prescriptions.

A2Z Eyecare offers four clinically supported treatment options: orthokeratology (overnight corneal reshaping), atropine eye drops, multifocal contact lenses, and multifocal eyeglasses. Rather than focusing solely on vision correction, each plan is designed to slow or halt the progression of myopia, reducing the risk of long-term complications.

"Children are spending significantly more time on screens and far less time outdoors—two major contributors to the current myopia surge," said Dr. Victoria Kravchenko, optometrist and founder of A2Z Eyecare. "By identifying early signs of progression, we can intervene before more serious issues develop."

A2Z Eyecare also offers pediatric eye exams for children aged four and up. The clinic provides a calm, supportive environment for young patients and can accommodate back-to-back appointments for siblings. Services include comprehensive eye testing and referrals for vision therapy where appropriate—supporting healthy visual development during critical learning years.
