-- It is the season of feasting and festivities, and one tutor who coaches English at the secondary school level in Singapore swears that he is not going to miss out on the occasion.
Mr Lee Lin Cher - who went by different names at different periods of his life over the past 3 years - has just published a blog post featuring what he deems to be the funniest and the most touching Chinese New Year 2024 videos available over the internet.
According to Lee, this habit of aggregating such Chinese New Year videos began in 2014, when he first started his journey into website-creation and publishing on the internet.
“Some of these videos were so touching that I almost broke down and cried,” Lee claims.

When asked about his objectives for reposting such videos on his website, Lee had this to say:
“Chinese New Year - being the most important festivity for all Chinese across the world - can be potentially stressful occasions for all the participants involved. School-going children will be interrogated about their grades, young adults will be pressured by their seniors about their marriage plans, while those with children face the double whammy of facing the truth about how their offspring are doing vis-à-vis other children; all whilst having to give red packets to these other competing kids who are making their own kids look like losers in front of everyone.”
“It’s a lose-lose situation.”
In Lee’s eyes, such Chinese New Year videos not only provide a “legal escape” from socially-awkward situations, they also serve as a timely reminder of what Chinese New Year 2024, or any other year before or beyond 2024, is all about.
“At the end of the day, Chinese New Year is about family, and about the ties that matter. If your relative is becoming a tad too unbearable, perhaps show him or her the videos to jolt their memory,” Lee adds.

Other than providing readers with a “legal means” to deflect nosey relatives, the Chinese New Year 2024 Videos blog post also serves to kick-start the Mad O Level English Tutor website, an O Level English resource platform that has been 10 years in the offing.
“You cannot imagine the number of starts, stops and crashes I have undergone to create this site,” Lee muses.
And while he cannot vouch that this would be the version that would work out and last, he is grateful for the journey so far; and that his feeble mind can only rely on the “still, silent voice” that is the source that has been prodding him to go forward with this project.
