
-- Hattiesburg, MS: Mac’s Construction has recently broken ground on its latest healthcare construction project at William Carey University. The new build scheme, which will see the Hattiesburg-based company construct a more than 74,000 square foot facility to help provide additional capacity for the university.
Speaking to WDAM7, University President, Tommy King said that “this will be the largest single building William Carey has ever built”.
When complete in the fall of 2021, the new building will house the university’s Health Information Management, Health Administration, Nursing, and Physical Therapy programs.
Ahead of the opening of the new facility, William Carey University has seen a record number of new students enrolling for these programs. These students, that start their programs in August 2020, will be some of the first to take advantage of the new world-class facilities, which the faculty have described as “a great asset to the school’s health science programs”.
Mac’s Construction was chosen by the college for its expertise in the health and college construction sectors, having recently completed a number of other high profile projects including a new hospice facility. Asbury Hospice House, also in Hattiesburg, is an 18,000-square-foot facility that serves 19 counties across southern Mississippi, providing crucial end-of-life care.
This vast experience has allowed Mac’s Construction to understand that each healthcare project is unique and that a bespoke approach is required to deal with its set of challenges.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare construction has never been so important as new facilities need to be built and existing ones upgraded to meet the new requirements.
