According to a study conducted by the University of California, mopping is the second-leading cause of cleaning-related injuries. The reason for this is because loop mops are heavy.

Temples Pride, the creators of the Dredge aluminum microfiber flat mop says that heavy mops can cause injury. The term for the majority of injuries caused by mopping is called repetitive motion injuries, or RMIs. As the name suggests, these are injuries that happen due to repeating the same motion again and again, usually in an incorrect manner which increases injury.

According to a study conducted by the University of California, mopping is the second-leading cause of cleaning-related injuries. The reason for this is because mops are heavy. More specifically, cotton loop mops. They weigh in around 4 to 6 pounds when wet, sometimes it can be more than that. The problem is that the heavier the mop, the harder it is to move, and the more prone to injury the user is.

Combine all that with an incorrect mopping technique and you have an inevitable recipe for injury. Incorrect mopping techniques are very common, most people mop by arching their backs and reaching out away from their body which puts them at risk of hurting their back.

“Mopping the floor with a heavy mop can cause injury,” say’s Brian from Temples Pride. “The issue is that old school mops weigh so much and when we mop, we go through pretty awkward and vulnerable positions. Those vulnerabilities are amplified when we incorrectly arch our backs and do other awkward things under a load of a heavy mop. Doing this over and over again thereby seriously opens up the user to injury. By using a lightweight microfiber mop, all this can be avoided.”

Temples Pride was founded in 2015 with a mission to provide an environmentally friendly & effective microfiber floor mopping system. To further support their mission, they are dedicated to reducing their environmental impact by helping to protect critical forest habitat. For every mop that they sell, they plant 1 tree.
