In celebration of its 125th anniversary, promoters have lined up some noteworthy performers to appear on May 5 at Carnegie Hall in downtown Manhattan, New York. And although the event is a full 3 months away, tickets are going very quickly. “As of today,” says a spokesman from ConcertBank, an online third party ticket seller, “we only have 84 tickets left. Luckily, fans have a good selection of seats, from the balcony to very near the stage.”
Tickets went on sale February 1 to subscribers and donors and don’t go on sale to the general public until February 8, but word on the street is that by then, it will be too late to get a seat. “People’s best chance at attending this historic event is to purchase tickets now while we still have them available,” says the spokesman. “Carnegie Hall only has so many seats, and once tickets are gone, it’s too late.”
James Taylor is one of the performers who will be on stage that night, along with some other luminaries such as Renee Fleming and Jessye Norman, who both sing with a unique opera sound, classical sounding Yo-Yo Ma, Audra McDonald, Lang Lang, Emanuel Ax with his classical piano skills, and the Marilyn Horne Sound Collection.
Carnegie Hall first opened on May 5, 1891 under the name Music Hall. The Hall has since become an iconic place to hear the most popular sounds in culture. The Beatles played at Carnegie Hall during their first trip to the U.S., as did Ike and Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, Nina Simone, the Beach Boys and many other beloved entertainers.
“In addition to being a great night full of sought after performers, attending Carnegie Hall’s 125 anniversary production is a once in a lifetime event,” says the spokesman. “But if you have any intention of going, don’t let sold out shows detour you. In other words, get your tickets while they’re still available.”
