“The Robotics classes at Sylvan are designed to expose students to different technology and engineering concepts in an unconventional and fun way in order to help them develop a life-long interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects,” says Crystal Schaberg, Director, Sylvan Learning Center located in Westchase. “This hands-on learning experience encourages collaboration among the students, helps them build important critical thinking skills and shows them how seemingly abstract concepts can work together to create a tangible object — a programmable robot.”
Throughout the program, students will learn how to build and program robots using LEGO® Education’s award-winning WeDo™ programming software. Groups of like-minded students will get the chance to experiment and problem solve together as they prepare their robot to compete against other robots in a friendly, final competition. Lastly, students will complete a worksheet that reinforces the new STEM skills they just experienced firsthand to solidify what they’ve learned. Parents will also be kept informed throughout the entire program with regular updates on the different skills that their child has learned following each session. In Robotics for Kids (grades 2- 6), students learn how to build and program robots with LEGO® bricks and software— letting their creativity and imaginations loose. Coding for Kids is an innovative course featuring video game design and computer programming with options for kids in grades 3-8. Math Edge, a math mastery program for grades 1–5, uses a variety of brain-boosting activities to help kids solve math problems in cool and engaging ways.
