-- Leaders in Training (LIT), a Las Vegas-based nonprofit focused on first-generation student leadership and college access, has announced its 2026 Senior Celebration scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. PDT. As demand grows for structured college access support, first-generation students continue to face barriers related to mentorship, financial resources, and long-term academic guidance. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, first-generation college students are significantly less likely to complete a degree compared to their continuing-generation peers, underscoring the role of sustained, cohort-based programs like those offered by Leaders in Training.
The upcoming event, themed “Keeping the Flame LIT: Celebrating Leaders and Sustaining the Future,” will recognize students who have completed LIT’s four-year cohort-based leadership program, which focuses on leadership development, college and career readiness, and community engagement. The organization’s model removes GPA-based entry barriers, allowing students to join early and develop skills progressively through mentorship and structured programming.
A representative for Leaders in Training noted that the event reflects both student achievement and community investment: “This gathering highlights what consistent support and mentorship can achieve over time. It also brings attention to the role local partners play in expanding opportunities for first-generation students.”
In addition to honoring graduating seniors, the celebration will serve as a point of engagement for donors, corporate sponsors, and nonprofit partners. Contributions made through the event help sustain LIT’s year-round initiatives, including family engagement programs, college preparation resources, and continued support beyond high school graduation.
LIT reports a 100% college acceptance rate among program completers, along with an 88% postsecondary persistence rate. These outcomes reflect the organization’s long-term approach to student development, which extends beyond short-term academic milestones.
Leaders in Training is a verified 501(c)(3) public charity based in East Las Vegas. Its programs are designed to empower first-generation students through leadership training, academic preparation, and sustained mentorship, supporting long-term success within their communities.
