Perranporth company Duchy Holidays has reported a huge jump in bookings for its Cornwall holiday cottages during July.
The cottage holiday company says demand for its properties in and around Perranporth, St Agnes and Porthtowan in Cornwall increased by 28.9% compared to July last year, which was also a busy month with a 17% increase in bookings on the year before that.
It seems that more and more people are choosing to book their holidays in July. Duchy Holidays are nearly all fully booked for the summer season and are seeing a steady stream of bookings for other times of the year.
The company thinks there could be many reasons for this but the spell of hot, sunny weather in early July certainly helped, with a spate of last-minute bookings from guests keen to holiday on the Cornish coast.
Duchy Holidays spokesperson Chelsea Johnson said: “July 2016 has been one of our strongest months for bookings. Enquiries have been up all year but July has been particularly busy.
“We can’t say for sure what has created the extra demand this summer. We like to think it’s our superb properties and quality service. But it could also be Cornwall’s high profile in the media or the increased cost of travelling abroad. The recent good weather must also have given us a big boost. Whatever the cause, it’s great for Cornwall and for us.”
Duchy Holidays is a family business established in 1994 to help people find the perfect Cornish holiday or short break to suit their personal tastes and requirements. All members of staff live locally to Perranporth and can use personal knowledge to recommend the best locations and self catering properties for guests.
The company specialises in holidays on the North Cornwall coast, offering a wide choice of over 130 properties ranging from beach-side apartments to leafy village cottages, catering for small or large groups. Chelsea Johnson added: “Cornwall is an amazing place for a holiday and is regularly voted the UK’s top holiday destination. The beautiful golden beaches, stunning scenery, superb family attractions and fantastic self-catering properties, all combine to make it an ideal location for a summer break.
“These record bookings show that more people than ever are returning to Cornwall or choosing to visit for the first time. Let’s hope this trend continues in future years.”
