In a boost to the local music scene, David J Powderly, a professional classical and contemporary guitar teacher from Ireland has emigrated to Wollongong with plans for a future teaching studio. When not on the road in Australia and New Zealand as an Examiner for the Registry of Guitar Tutors, David is offering his talent to Wollongong locals keen to improve their guitar skills.

With a great love of music, David particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge and discovering new material with his students.

David says: “The greatest gift we can hope to teach is a love of music. Not just for music, but for the exploration of music… for the joy it brings and all of the emotions it reflects and accentuates, and the minute you pick up an instrument and play, nobody will sound like you. It’s yours. Your voice. Your emotion and your joy. Nobody can take that away from you.”

David Powderly has an impressive background, which will make him stand out when compared to other guitar teachers in the Wollongong area. Past students have included entrants in Britain’s Got Talent, along with professional rock and contemporary guitarists, singer/songwriters, jazz musicians and more.

This is a great chance for Wollongong residents to learn from a dedicated musician with international experience.

David Powderly moved into the Wollongong area in late 2017, unable to ignore his love for Australia any longer. He left behind the Meath Music Academy just outside Dublin, an institution he co-founded. It is one of the most respected music education hubs in the North East of Ireland with over 300 students and 11 teachers.

David Powderly also said: “While I may not be the only business with this kind of offering, local residents are choosing to learn from me because my philosophy in teaching revolves around the student.”

When asked who is his ideal student, David Powderly said: “All ages, levels and learning styles can be taught, whether you’re a complete beginner or a professional, I even have tailored curriculae for students with special needs.”.
