The launch comes off the back of Davis’ best-selling memoir ‘Three Years in Ethiopia: How a Civil War and Epidemics Led Me to My Daughter’, which was released in 2019 and was a 2019 B.R.A.G. Medallion Award winner.
In this follow-up book, Davis further explores the daunting yet life-affirming experiences that marked her career as a humanitarian and medical consultant working in some of the world’s most underprivileged and dangerous countries.
In particular, the memoir reflects on her 35-year career working to prevent and eradicate infectious diseases including smallpox, malaria, and HIV/AIDS in countries across Africa and Asia.
By charting the story of how she began working in this incredibly risky but rewarding field it is Davis’ goal to empower her readers to see the possibilities that unfold when one takes bold chances.
Within her memoir, Davis balances her personal story with insightful goals and instructions on how readers can seize the day and make decisions that really matter. By firstly encouraging readers to reflect on their life, Davis then guides readers to create a – what she calls – ‘do-over list’ and from there helps them to discover how they can live their purpose through this process of reconsideration.
While working in some of the world’s most difficult conditions has given Davis a first-hand insight into the challenges that life may present people with, it has never dimmed her optimism.
It is this optimism which she brings to her new book, reminding readers that if they want to meaningfully change their life, they have the tools to do so, they need only consciously make the choice to take a chance on a new direction.
Cornelia E. Davis MD is an author, speaker, epidemiologist, doctor, and healthcare consultant.
