The Illinois Emergency Management Agency states that winter driving conditions contribute to almost 29,000 vehicle accidents each year, and can also cause unexpected breakdowns. As a result, the agency recommends that motorists should prepare and carry an emergency survival kit, as well as winterizing their vehicle, which includes having it serviced by a reputable mechanic.
