In-Home Care Agency, Homewatch CareGivers Northshore, announced today that the company has expanded their Long Term Care service offerings to included Long Term Care Insurance Claims Processing and Benefit Management for Home Care clients.

As more Americans plan for future medical expenses, a new report from Genworth and AARP finds that long-term care insurance can offer critical protection and needed flexibility for millions of families managing the significant costs associated with long-term care. The latest analysis finds that long-term care insurance provides a more cost-effective way to pay for health care expenses later in life, such as nursing homes, assisted living, or in-home care, rather than relying on personal savings or depleting assets in order to qualify for Medicaid.

Long-term care insurance provides vital assistance to individuals who can no longer perform normally Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) associated with independent living as a result of chronic illness, disability, disease or as a result of the frailties of aging. Over the next 40 years, with the population of people over 65 is projected to double, and the over 85 population is expected to triple, significantly driving the need for long-term care services.

More than 7 million people have purchased a long-term care policy for the financial security and peace of mind it provides; however, when the time comes to use the benefits to pay for in-home care, many policy holders can experience confusion and frustration throughout the claims process.

In order to qualify to receive Long Term Care Insurance Benefits (LTCi benefits), most policies require a policy holder to need assistance with at least two Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) or have cognitive impairment.

“Understanding the payment options for home care can be complicated and confusing. One of the first steps in the process is to determine whether or not an individual has Long Term Care Insurance,” Homewatch CareGivers Northshore Managing Director Mitch Abrams said. “About 42 percent of our clients have some kind of private LTCi coverage, compared with a percentage of about 5 percent to 10 percent at a typical home care agency.” says Abrams. “We have developed an exceptional process to attain reimbursement from private long-term care insurance (LTCI) companies.”

The high use of private LTCI is partly the result of the fact that the home care agency is based in Northbrook, Ill., and operates in affluent North Shore communities near Chicago. The agency also has a high percentage of private LTCI patients because it takes responsibility for filing LTCI claims with insurers and resolving problems with claim payments.

The agencies newly expanded Long Term Care services now include complimentary LTCi policy reviews, free long term care needs assessments as well as long term care insurance claims processing and benefits management for home care clients.

“These value added services will allow our agency to further expand its client base, will afford easier access to care for existing clients and capitalize on additional opportunities to assist clients in need throughout Chicago and the surrounding North Shore communities.”
