Chronic pain now affects more than 60 million U.S. adults, according to a study co-authored by researchers at the University at Buffalo and published in the journal PAIN in August 2025. Prevalence climbed to over 24% in 2023 — the highest ever recorded in the country. The course comes as practitioners increasingly seek additional clinical tools to help patients manage a condition that remains difficult to treat with conventional approaches alone.
The training begins with the foundational language of microcurrent therapy before moving into treatment protocols and practical FSM applications. According to Frequencies that MEND, the course material examines the nerves, spinal cord, facet joints, ligaments, and myofascial system, helping participants identify possible sources and patterns of pain.
"Complex pain requires practitioners to look beyond symptoms and understand the patterns involved," a Frequencies that MEND representative said. "Foundations 1 brings that clinical thinking into practical FSM training."
The course is taught by Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT, a licensed acupuncture physician and expert in myofascial pain and dysfunction. Goossen has taught microcurrent integration in clinical practice for nearly two decades and led a Department of Defense demonstration project evaluating microcurrent and bioenergetic devices in hospital outpatient settings.
Drawing on her clinical and teaching experience, Goossen guides participants through neurological evaluation, reflex and sensory testing, detailed patient history, and treatment setup. Practical demonstrations cover hands-on physical assessment, frequency-response testing, spinal and nerve-based techniques, and myofascial therapy sessions.
According to the organization, the course introduces the MEND Professional device and several methods of microcurrent delivery. Priced at $299, it provides 180 days of access and additional material on post-concussive pain, polarity checks, treatment precautions, and operating the MEND Wellness unit.
