Interactive Government Holdings, Inc (IGH) revealed an example of business supporting veterans. In this example, due to COVID, Joe and his wife became homeless. IGH with their Vermont Veterans Outreach Program and Vermont support organizations took this homeless veteran and his wife from homeless to housed, supported and recognized.

Joe* stepped up for his country by serving in World War II. He nobly served in combat as part of the Greatest Generation. Instead of relying on what his country could do for him, he and his wife settled in Montreal and built a comfortable life there. Their circumstances changed when COVID hit in 2020. At 94 years old he, and his wife, were sent to the United States in September 2020. They found themselves homeless.

Fortunately, the Vermont Easter Seals Military and Veteran Services connected Joe with IGH team on the Vermont Veterans Outreach Program. This turned out to be the first step in becoming housed, supported and recognized. IGH really stepped up to ensure Joe and his wife were taken care of.

Through the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity IGH found them long-term housing. Since they didn’t have any income they qualified for the 3 Squares Program and received meals that met their dietary needs.

Joe as also was eligible for VA health care that he had never utilized before. The IGH team helped cut through the red tape and got Joe in quickly for VA medical appointments. He also started collecting his monthly VA pension.

There are so many things that Americans take for granted, like having a phone and a computer. These were addressed as well by the IGH team’s vast community partnerships and resources. They helped fix Joe’s laptop and got them a cell phone so they could now make appointments and make other necessary calls.

This summer, Joe celebrated his 95th birthday. He happened to have a VA appointment on that same day. The VA staff surprised him with a birthday party. But that wasn’t the only surprise of the day. The IGH team had requested Joe receive two medals he had earned for his service and had them presented at his party by State of Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs Director Robert Burke. Joe received the Vermont Service Medal for serving in the military and the Vermont Distinguished Medal for his combat service.

Interactive Government Holdings, Inc is an excellent example of business supporting veterans. This example of Joe and his wife reveals in a practical way what’s possible with the right information and guidance.

The IGH team on the Vermont Veterans Outreach Program has a heart for serving veterans. This example of helping Joe and his wife go from homeless to housed, supported and recognized is a perfect example of their dedication to the men and women who bravely served.
