“Part of our philosophy here is the Greek concept of Philotimo” says owner Peter Vouras. “Philotimo means giving to others. We at Freskos feel that paying things forward in the community is our moral responsibility.” This past year Freskos has now donated money to the Wounded Warrior Project, relief for the devastating fires in the Greek island of Evia and it’s “Gyros for Heroes” program that provided food for the front line workers at the beginning of the pandemic.
Greek cuisine is well known around the world for its fresh, healthy, and tasty food. When owner Peter Vouras began to notice the increased interest in eating out more healthily back in 2016, Freskos came into being, establishing itself as the go-to place for delicious and thoughtful Greek cuisine in Connecticut. Soon after opening, the restaurant began to receive accolades for its achievements, with reviewers noting the authentic feel and taste of the menu, in addition to its options for customers with specific dietary requirements.
Today, Freskos continues to impress with an extensive range of fresh and nutritious foods, and even imports several of its key ingredients straight from Greece. Popular choices include both the Chicken and Pork souvlaki grilled and marinated in the traditional style, and Greek Gyros with Beef or Lamb – each well-known in modern culture as staples of Greek cuisine.
The restaurant is also able to accommodate vegetarian and vegan needs, removing meat and dairy from meals on request. Customers can also enjoy the imported Greek Veggie Burger, or try a tasty Tofu Souvlaki option.
When it comes to dessert, the Greeks offer a range of choices like no other country, which means Freskos do too. The menu includes traditional Baklava, fresh rice pudding, Galaktobouriko, the ever-popular Kataifi made with shredded phyllo dough, and of course authentic Greek yogurt.
“A personable service, very good sandwiches, and even better desserts,” said one satisfied customer. “We stopped at Freskos over the holiday weekend, just as they were closing. They made us two very nice sandwiches, had some good recommendations, and the quality of the fish was great. Not to mention the desserts were a true bonus. Would definitely recommend this place.”
