As the progression of online spiritual “helpers” and self-help speakers around the Western world continue to increase due to the ease of access via the internet, many don’t understand how to approach their followers in Islamic based countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the like. Las Vegas’s own Travis Fox is one who is helping to spread the love in Turkey.
It is important to keep in mind that while there are more progressive Muslims today than years past; many Muslims do not normally seek psychological help in the West as there is a fear that the cultural differences will not be considered and the lack of this sensitivity to the Quran’s word will cause Islamic believers to stray from the teachings of the Quran. However, with the increase in the Muslim population world-wide, naturally there is an increase in those who could benefit from psychological help. Most, however, prefer to keep it within the confines of the Mosque where they are preached to even more and accused to being weak minded followers of Muhammad rather than truly treating what may be a mental disorder or even a simple phobia that can be easily treated and greatly diminished.
Most new Islamics are of the belief they can change themselves internally and through understanding themselves via love. So, psychological help is accepted, but under the specific laws or rulings of Muslim scholars. On the other hand, it is believed that hypnotherapy is actually guided by a ‘jinn’ or spirit of some kind that is not pure and therefore not allowed.
Today in Turkey there has been great growth with the popular subject of spiritual self-help centers offering training and seminars for the public seeking deeper fulfillment. A great example is Metin Hara and his training academy. His new book “The Path”, one of a three-part best-selling series has been a great hit. Also, his open mind to introduce other international spiritual and self-help leaders like Dr. Travis Fox, The Architect of Being (www.TravisFox.net) More on Travis Fox and the work he is doing. from the United States has helped to open the doors to the now predominately Islamic country.
Metin Hara will host Travis Fox over the next couple of weeks in Turkey at his Muhtesem Bir Festival Bizi Bekliyor (Yoga Festival) to share teachings of how to “unwind your mind” and really “learn what you’re not” to have a clearer understanding of self.
