A seller of earth friendly products relays the shocking results of a decades long study involving plastic pollution and seabirds.

An expert in plastic pollution says that it’s quickly becoming evident that the plastic pollution problem is worse than anyone thought.

The University of Alaska Anchorage began monitoring the drastic decline of seabird populations, but researchers quickly changed course when they found something odd in the stomach of one of the birds,” says a spokesman for MJH Innovations, an online seller of earth friendly products at a great price, including a line of cute reusable shopping bags shaped like fruit. “In 2013, one of the researchers found a shard of micro plastic buried in the gut of a tufted puffin on the island of Amchitka. After that, the researchers changed direction and began investigating how many of the birds had ingested pieces of the plastic pollution.”

He says that after examining hundreds of birds for more than a decade, researchers have found that one-fifth of all examined seabirds has ingested micro plastics. “What’s worse,” he says, “Is that plastic is produced using phthalate, which is highly toxic. These toxins are added to plastics to make them soft and durable, but they are deadly to both seabirds and people.”

“We’ve known for years that all of the plastic shopping bags people use once and throw away contribute to this problem, but this study shows us more than ever the importance of carrying reusable shopping bags when buying groceries or other items.”

He says that cheap reusable shopping bags are now widely available and people should use them whenever possible in order to protect our wildlife and planet.
