Local business directories are quickly becoming a vital aspect of marketing for local shops, restaurants, and service businesses across the nation. That’s because consumers no longer rely on traditional means to find US local businesses, but instead use their smart phones, tablets, and laptops to look for them online. But according to one expert, if the local listings aren’t set up properly, they won’t do much good.
“Every local business owner should be doing all they can to establish an online presence for their store,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal.com, a local business directory that uses GEO location technology to automatically match the results visitors see with their location. “But they need to ensure that they provide as much information in it as possible or consumers might move on to other, more complete listings.”
He’s talking about the details that consumers look for when trying to find local businesses in an online directory. Studies show that 50 percent of lookers want to know the business address and a full 40 percent of them want to see the store hours.
“If your local business listing doesn’t have these details, you should immediately update them so potential customers can find your store and visit it.” He also recommends including a business phone number and website address if there is one. Finally, he advices local business owners to include any other information relevant to their business, such as information on product offerings, ongoing sales, or even photographs.
About FindUsLocal: FindUsLocal uses geolocation technology in visitor’s browsers to construct a home page focused on their city, town or community. Right there on the front page, they’ll find local weather, sports results for their favorite teams, and announcements of the top musical acts and events coming to their city. Smart business owners list their businesses on the site to be seen by those who are specifically looking for businesses in their local area.
