His other influences include the works of J. Krishnamurti, David Bohm, Rumi, Adi Shankaracharya, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, Atmananda Krishnamenon and the yoga of B K S Iyengar, whose method he studied intensely for the first 15 years of his yoga journey.

James Traverse has a background of over 4 decades of Yoga and meditation experience. James’ personal practice and the guidance of his teacher, Jean Klein, shaped the simple and profound way this book is written.
When asked about why he wrote the book, Traverse said: “I wrote this book to share an authentic approach that honours the intention of the founder of yoga. I wanted to share the practicality of helping people physically and also to provide a means for them to attune spiritually.”
Traverse has hopes that the book will inspire yoga practitioners to connect with a yoga practice that is more than just physical. This positive outlook from the author is certainly testament to their optimism considering some of the mishaps during its creation. At one point when writing this book he had a computer crash that erased everything he’d written, and he had to rewrite everything from scratch.
In a recent interview, the author made a point of thanking his teacher, Jean Klein and all the students who attended his classes over the years for their part in the creation of the book. He also thanked his editor saying, “Thank You to Helen Porter who helped with the editing of this book.”
