curaJOY believes responsible technology and ethical AI are reasonably achieved when diverse communities are shaping them, rather than big tech companies. By teaching skills in AI, machine learning, and data science, the non-profit seeks to help diverse communities understand the technology better, build confidence in using it, and most importantly, empower themselves through data literacy.

“This mirrors how emotional wellness is built—through developing emotional awareness and foundational social-emotional skills,” said a spokesperson for curaJOY. “If you don't understand something, then it's hard to use it safely and effectively.”

Through the partnership with DataCamp Donates, curaJOY’s volunteers and youth ambassadors will have access to world-class data science, AI education, and certification programs on DataCamp, as well as hands-on guidance from industry professionals using real-world projects. This will allow the organization to actively shape a culture of responsible, safe, and effective AI use while upskilling youth, parents, clinicians, and teachers.

With AI and machine learning, curaJOY’s gamified, inclusive, and on-demand behavioral health platform - MyCuraJOY - is already helping clinicians accurately identify the root causes of challenging behaviors like elopement, self-harm, and aggression at an increased rate of 40%.
