DALLAS, TEXAS (December 2021): Dr. Suzanne Slonim, founder and medical director of Fibroid Institute Dallas, welcomes fibroid specialist Dr. Uma Reddy to the North Texas fibroid practice. An additional fibroid doctor enables the institute to serve more women seeking uterine fibroid treatment in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Dr. Reddy’s focus is to make a difference in fibroid treatment for women, improve their quality of life, and give them a non-surgical option for fibroid symptom relief.

About Uma Reddy, MD

Dr. Uma Reddy, both a diagnostic and interventional radiologist, joins Fibroid Institute Dallas with the goal of educating women about non-surgical, state-of-the-art uterine fibroid treatment. She joins a highly specialized practice, with locations in North Dallas and Duncanville, Texas, utilizing the latest advanced technology and techniques to improve women’s lives. Says Dr. Reddy, “Too many women have suffered from fibroids for years. They deserve to live their lives without fibroid symptoms.”

From a family full of physicians, it was natural for Dr. Reddy to pursue medicine. She attended Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, India. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Miami. After training, she opened and developed their satellite outpatient interventional radiology center in Plantation, Florida. In 2011, Dr. Reddy received a Certificate of Merit from the Radiological Society of North America. A member of numerous professional associations, she is board certified by both the American Board of Radiology and the Board of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Before bringing her knowledge to Fibroid Institute Dallas, Dr. Reddy focused on interventional oncology. She has performed over 6,000 procedures including her first uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) in 2014. Being trained and practicing in both diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology provides Dr. Reddy with a greater understanding of imaging results such as MRI and ultrasound.

As medical director of the institute Dr. Suzanne Slonim says, “Our high level of care and concern for our patients will be upheld by Dr. Reddy with continuity. The entire team is committed to always exceeding expectations for the women we see for fibroid treatment.” Women can expect concierge service—from consultation to their procedure and recovery, through follow up visits. Dr. Reddy adds, “Since UFE is the only procedure we perform, we can completely focus all our energy on refining the technique and patient experience. Being able to care for the patient throughout the entire process allows continuity of care and gives me immense job satisfaction.”

Dr. Reddy is compassionate and empathetic to her patients. She always thinks from the patient’s perspective and provides individualized care to her patients. “As a woman, I can relate to health challenges women face. When women come to me suffering and worried, I want to help them. I make sure they receive the best care. I discuss all the options and provide a great resource for them,” she says.

Dr. Slonim is thrilled to introduce Dr. Reddy. “The addition of Dr. Reddy to our team of fibroid experts allows us to help more women looking for non-surgical fibroid treatment. I welcome patients and the entire women’s healthcare community to meet Dr. Reddy,” Dr. Slonim says. Dr. Reddy is currently accepting new patients and looks forward to helping women live fibroid free.

About Fibroid Institute Dallas and Suzanne Slonim, MD

Dr. Suzanne Slonim founded Fibroid Institute Dallas in 2016 out of concern for the high incidence of surgeries to treat uterine fibroids. As the institute’s medical director, she has dedicated her practice to expanding access to a minimally invasive procedure called uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) and educating women about fibroid treatment options. Dr. Slonim says, “I’m passionate about helping women avoid surgery if they can,” she says. “I treat every patient as if she were my sister. I feel honored that women are willing to share their concerns with me.”

With 30,000+ procedures in over 26 years, Dr. Slonim is considered a pioneer in interventional radiology. She is among only 12 percent in her highly specialized field who are women. She also is a sought-after speaker and author of the 2018 book, Pain-Free Periods — Banish Menstrual Misery, Fight Fibroids, and Get Your Life Back. She has been voted a Best Doctor in Dallas by D Magazine, included in Super Doctors by Texas Monthly, and honored with the Women in Business award by the Dallas Business Journal.

About Uterine Fibroids and UFE

Uterine fibroids are abnormal growths in the uterus that affect three out of four women, most often between the ages of 30 and 50. Although usually benign, fibroids may lead to life-altering symptoms, such as severe pelvic pain and heavy periods. Fibroids can also cause abdominal bloating, urinary frequency, back pain, and reproductive dysfunction including miscarriage, early labor, and infertility. They are often discovered during routine health testing.

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a non-surgical treatment that uses image-guided interventional radiology and a small radial catheter in the wrist to introduce microscopic particles that block blood flow to the fibroids, causing them to shrink and die while preserving the uterus. It is a safe, fast, and minimally invasive procedure, often providing an alternative to hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) or myomectomy (surgical removal of the fibroids). Covered by most insurance plans, UFE requires a much shorter recovery time than traditional surgery. The success rate for the procedure is over 90%.

Gynecologists historically were reluctant to recommend UFE because of post-procedure pain. However, Fibroid Institute Dallas has become the preferred referral partner for many physicians including gynecologists, internists, hematologists, general practitioners, wellness doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists. Dr. Slonim developed a concierge practice with a unique approach in patient treatment, so they experience little discomfort as the fibroids shrink.
