-- One of Australia’s most exciting unsolicited authors and writers, Dr Phil Salonikis has a repertoire of awards and recognition within the realm of arts, literature, science and medicine from the likes of Film Australia, Songwriters Composers And Lyricists Association and more.
Having written a manuscript, feature length film, several TV series, founded a non-profit and a successful psychiatrist in private practice for over thirty years, it’s not surprising that Dr Salonikis is working on yet another thrilling literary project.
Almost thirty years after winning a national Film Australia award for the synopsis of his psychological and crime thriller, “Chrysalis”, Dr Salonikis went on to completed the manuscript, which is about a psychiatrist who becomes conflicted when his patient with multiple personality disorder commits a series of murders to heal herself. The manuscript has gained literary agency interest in Australia, UK and US.
Now he sets out to write a TV pilot and series, which is sure to generate controversy and debate, from professionals to the general public.
Dr Salonikis commented: “Being written by a psychiatrist about a psychiatrist, it gives the audience a unique and fascinating journey into the workings of the mind, the phenomena of mental illness and psychotherapy. The story is in the vein of “Sybil” and “Shutter Island”.”
Other fascinating projects include:
A supernatural horror feature length screenplay based in a South Australian coastal town titled “Granite Island”. The story is set in two intertwining eras, which has historical and contemporary elements, fusing fact and fiction.
A TV series based on his childhood experiences for a historical fiction, murder mystery set in rural South Australia titled “Coober Pedy Town”, as well a psychological thriller domestic noir titled “Reunion”.
In 2015, Dr Salonikis began a global initiative promoting mental health and equality through sport. Since then he has established Ludo Aequitas (Latin for “Equality Through Sport”), which is a not for profit organization aimed at helping individuals who have experienced adversity through discrimination and vilification based on race, colour, age, sex, gender, religion, disability and social status.
Dr Salonikis explained: “Existing sporting campaigns, despite good intentions, have largely failed to address the mental consequences of social discrimination for both individual and athlete. A new approach was needed.
Sport has long been known to play a pivotal role in changing human thought, behaviour and consciousness. To create a psychologically healthier individual and a better society. But the underlying mechanisms have been poorly understood.
It can do more. It must do more.”
Using the Ludo Aequitas premise and platform, he has also developed an interview program for athletes who have experienced forms of social adversity.
