District Smiles, a state-of-the-art dental practice in Washington’s historic Tenleytown neighborhood, has announced the arrival of Dr. Ibraheem Samirah, DDS, as Senior Dentist.
District Smiles calls Samirah’s arrival an important step for the practice. Samirah’s broad skill set allows them to provide various specialty services without referring patients to unfamiliar practitioners. The practice considers that especially important for families with children and patients who are anxious about dental care.
“Tenleytown, AU and this corner of DC is where I put my roots, where I went to school and where I began my career helping others address their dental health issues so many years ago. I am proud to be back in my own community running this cozy little dental office right in the heart of Tenleytown, DC. And even more important, now I am able to help the people in my community fully resolve those dental problems that everyone struggles with- problems which can often go unaddressed and wind up in serious health issues down the road. But hopefully, by reaching out to my community and getting the word out about District Smiles, my team and I can help resolve these problems from the start.” Dr. Samirah
A graduate of Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Samirah’s approach to dentistry has always been one of service. On his way to earning his degree, he created an oral health awareness program for the men of a halfway house at the renowned Dimock Center, also providing dental care for both children and adults who visited the center for treatment.
Originally from Chicago, Samirah spent his teenage years living abroad with his family in the Kingdom of Jordan. Prior to returning to the United States for college, he volunteered with the United Nations Relief and Work Agency, taught elementary school and was a research aide for Jordan’s Middle East Studies Centre.
Coming home to the U.S. in 2009, Samirah, before discovering dentistry, earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from The American University. While there, he continued following his passion for community service by mentoring young people through the Youth Empowerment Project and Kid Power Inc.
Even today, as a practicing dentist, Dr. Samirah maintains a focus on civic involvement. As the Democratic nominee for delegate in Virginia’s 86th district, he is currently leading the field for election on February 19th, 2019.
