Self Publishing Expert Doug Crowe discusses Personal Branding in Publishing during the Common People Podcast.

-- Doug Crowe, Book Publishing Expert was recently interviewed by Jon Salas on his podcast, The Common People Podcast. You can visit https://anchor.fm/johnny120/episodes/Ep-16-Doug-Crowe-e10pcd5 to listen to the podcast.

Salas’ show features ordinary people with remarkable stories and what it is like to step into their shoes.

Crowe’s agency, Author your Brand, has been helping people who want to become authors for over 12 years. They do this with a twist.

His clients become authors without them writing a word.

Doug’s agency has helped executives and entrepreneurs ranging from Decorated Military Officers to C-level Executives from Starbucks to realize their vision and turn it into a brand. Most authors intend to make an impact before they die or expand their business outreach or brand.

Crowe revealed on the podcast their unique methods for authors to create a bigger impact and oftentimes, 6- figure revenue.

But according to Crowe, “Books don’t make money.” Incremental speaking gigs or contracts are the main drivers of becoming an author. Non-fiction authors have the potential to realize more revenue because of, but not directly from their book.

Crowe continued, “Not everyone should become an author, however.” Crowe started his firm doesn’t approve anyone with aspirations of becoming an author. If an author intends to only earn money solely from the book sales, their odds of success are slim to none.

The math is clear. According to Crowe, “It is easier to give away one thousand books and upsell 30 people to a $1,000 digital course than sell 3,000 books at a $10 per unit margin.”

According to Crowe, a book is the start of a relationship with a reader. In Doug’s own words, an author’s book should make a positive impact on the future. It’s not just about making money. It’s about making a difference in society.

Should anyone consider becoming an author? The process of writing, publishing, and marketing is impossible to do alone. But everyone has the potential to make a measurable difference in the world.
