Dirty Dancing Returns to the Pantages in Time for Valentine’s Day

Dirty Dancing tickets are still available for all Valentine’s week shows at Los Angeles’ Pantages Theatre.

The hit Broadway production of Dirty Dancing returns to Los Angeles’ Pantages Theatre for the first time since 2009, according to the theater’s recently released 2016 schedule. Tickets for “Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage” are in tight supply, but still available on the third party concert ticket market online.

The theater production grew from the hit 1987 movie, “Dirty Dancing,” which is familiar to millions of fans around the world. The stage show includes most of the movie’s well-known soundtrack, and show-stopping dance numbers. It follows the adventures of 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman through her family vacation at a Catskills Mountain resort, as she discovers love, Johnny Castle and the gritty realities of life on the other side of the tracks. While the story is emotionally touching, the play, like the movie that spawned it, is best known for its pulse-pounding and audience-pleasing musical core and dance numbers.

The 2016 production of Dirty Dancing stars Gillian Abbott as Baby and Christopher Tierney as Johnny, and features the story as adapted for stage by the original screenwriter, Eleanor Bergstein. Bergstein believes that theater is the story’s natural medium because, she says, it allows the audience to be there as with Johnny and Baby as they discover each other in dance. It also allowed her to add more Johnny and Baby scenes, making it a special treat for those Dirty Dancing fans who wanted more romance and more dance.

The show opens at the Pantages on February 2 and runs through February 21, with two shows daily. Dirty Dancing tickets are available through theater ticket resellers online for all shows. Fans who want tickets to Dirty Dancing should act fast, though, warned one theater critic. “Dirty Dancing has inspired a cult following akin to The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” he wrote in a review of the show for the Calgary Times. “Tickets don’t last long.”

The high-energy choreography and passionate love story makes this show a natural for a Valentine’s Day date, says a local relationship expert. “Dirty Dancing is a smorgasbord of heart-pounding music, sensational dancing and passionate romance and is practically guaranteed to ignite romance for couples in the audience,” he said.

Third party ticket site TheatreTicketBank.com lists tickets available to all seatings of “Dirty Dancing The Classic Story on Stage” at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, though availability varies from show to show, and will change as the inventory changes.

“If you want your Valentine to be singing, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” at the end of the night, now is the time to grab tickets to this classic show,” advised the relationship expert.
