TeamSmile is the nation’s top advocacy group that teams up oral health professionals with pro-athletic groups in order to deliver much needed oral care to underserved children in the community.
This volunteer-based, oral health-focused charity began in response to the rise in the amount of children with deferred dental care, which has received growing attention across the United States. TeamSmile started with the mission of bringing dental professionals, pro-sports teams, and dental organizations together. The purpose of which, as they state on their website, was to “provide life-changing dental care and instruction to children in their communities who otherwise would not have access to it.”
They have been providing this much needed service to young patients all across the country for years, delivering hundreds of thousands of dollars in dental care, ranging from standard cleanings and checkups, to crowns, extractions and fillings.
On July 29th of this year, Dr. Murphy and his team of volunteers went to the Chicago Bears Training Camp in Bourbonnais, IL, and alongside other professionals, both the athletic and dental kind, created life-changing dental experiences that helped to reinforce the value of a life-long commitment to oral health care, and gum disease prevention.
Dr. Murphy had this to say about how he got started with TeamSmile: “Four years ago, I was introduced to Kellie from TeamSmile, and she asked for my help in treating underprivileged children. I decided to help, and every year since, I have enjoyed seeing some of the same families, and some new families. They are so grateful that we come back each year because this is the only time they have a chance to see a dentist.”
With the chance to meet professional sports teams like the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Detroit Lions (just to name a few) what kid wouldn’t be thrilled, and it’s all done in the name of promoting oral and overall health for children in these communities.
TeamSmile and Dr. Murphy share the values promoted on the TeamSmile website, which make them natural partners in the fight for oral health. These values being high clinical standards, a passion towards helping community, continuation of care, and teamwork in the accomplishment of goals.
Both TeamSmile, and the team over at Dr. Murphy’s dental practice don’t plan on letting-up on the fight for healthy teeth and gums, both committing to continuing this great service for the nation’s youth.
