Dr Darren McKeown, one of the UK’s leading medical aesthetics practitioners, is launching a new treatment from his prestigious Glasgow clinic, the Aesthetic Medicine Institute. CoolSculpting® is Allergan’s new solution for targeting problematic pockets of fat without surgery and without needles.

Dr Darren McKeown has established his reputation over the past 10 years based on his success in the field of facial aesthetics, with his practice going from strength to strength. His close relationship with Allergan, the company which developed Botox and the leading dermal filler Juvederm®, led to the decision to offer the new treatment to his patients. Dr McKeown is the leading practitioner in treatments using Botox and Juvederm in Scotland.

Dr McKeown said:

“We all have problem areas of the body that cause anxiety, or which we feel could be improved. My ethos has always been that it is not how you look that’s important, but how you feel about your looks. If your body isn’t giving you confidence, it’s worth talking to a professional about what can be done to help you look and feel your best.

“Coolsculpting is a new and cutting-edge treatment, offering a non-invasive way to contour specific areas of the body by freezing unwanted fat. The concept of fat freezing has been around for 10 years, but technology in that time has been developed and moved onto to a much more advanced level such that I was blown away when I saw Allergan’s most recent results. The applicators have been adapted so it is possible to target parts of the body more efficiently, and the treatment protocols have been modified and updated. We now know that to get the best results it is necessary to carry out multiple treatment cycles, with a variety of applicators although these multiple cycles can be carried out at the same treatment appointment consecutively. Each cycle lasts around 35 minutes and it can be necessary to carry out up to 10 cycles, which is why I made the decision to buy two machines so we can do two cycles simultaneously, halving the treatment time for some patients. This is our ‘Dual Sculpting’ approach.

“Twenty years ago cosmetic surgeons were routinely carrying out open and endoscopic brow lifts. Now, in the era of Botox, those highly invasive and aggressive procedures have largely been confined to the history books and we look back and think ‘can you believe people actually once did that’? I think the same is going to be true of liposuction for the removal of unwanted fat in another 20 years. With the results it is now possible to achieve with CoolSculpting, I think the days of surgical liposuction are truly numbered. Coolsculpting is the non-surgical liposuction treatment that patients in Glasgow have been waiting for.”

Dr McKeown is investing heavily in training his team in CoolSculpting techniques. The clinic’s lead doctor and aesthetician, who will be leading the CoolSculpting service, are about to attend the Cool Sculpting® University in Barcelona to benefit from direct training by Allergan professionals.

Dr Joanne Payne said: “Women in particular often ask me about fat reduction treatments and liposuction. It’s exciting to see this new procedure which can assist with body contouring and targeting of areas which are resistant to diet and exercise. Since this is a non-surgical procedure, there will be virtually no downtime for the patient after treatment and each cycle takes only 35 minutes. We will offer a customised treatment plan for each patient, tailored to their individual needs and goals. The fact that CoolSculpting® comes from an established and trusted global brand offers additional peace of mind.”

CoolSculpting® can be targeted to problem areas including the upper arm, abdomen, under the chin, thigh, buttock or flanks. Five million treatment cycles have now been performed worldwide. 73% of Allergan patients said they were satisfied or extremely satisfied with the treatment after three months. The patient survey was conducted by Allergan in two European clinical research sites.
