As they have been for decades, construction sets will continue to be a hot trend in 2015 and the North American International Toy Fair in New York in February will feature new and exciting directions in the construction set segment, Click-A-Brick Co-Founders Georg de Gorostiza and Jason Smith are predicting.
At last year’s toy fair, toys that children could use to build with were one of the biggest trends on the floor of the major toy trade fair and with the likes of Click-A-Brick entering the market and the rate at which the toys were snapped up during the 2014 Christmas season, the classic toy is set to continue being a hot seller.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as construction sets prove to be popular year in and year out with kids, says de Gorostiza, who is also Click-A-Brick’s Brand Manager.
“To say that construction sets are going to be hot in 2015 is a bit of an easy call because when haven’t they been hot? It’s a classic toy that children love so this is maybe the easiest prediction I’ve ever made,” de Gorostiza says. “We think the upcoming Toy Fair is just going to solidify the status of building toys as a sort of perpetually hot trend.”
Along with being fun for children, construction toy sets also have a nostalgic quality to them and prompt parents to also play with them, which promotes spending time and engaging with their kids. The fact that parents often like to play with the toys almost as much as their kids is a part of the reason they have a near-constant spot on the hot toys trends list.
Also making them a perennial favorite is their educational quality, Smith notes.
“They’re fun, they bring back great memories for parents and they promote learning, cognitive development and motor skill development. What’s not to love about them? You’ll see, there will be tons of new construction sets at the Toy Fair,” Smith says. “As far as toy trends go, construction sets are a pretty safe bet with kids.”
Adding to De Gorostiza’s and Smith’s confidence is the good opening week sales of Click-A-Brick in December for the 2014 Christmas season. The demand the company has seen for the toy has bolstered the pair’s confidence that the construction set segment within the toy industry is going to be another hot seller for 2015.
