-- The sight of a racing car reaching into air like a galloping horse delighted spectators to no end during the golden years of drag racing. This feat was made possible by the famous Hemi engine, and the cars were called wheel standers. Quarter Mile Addiction has now launched its tribute to the era and its creators with Premium Fit Men’s Tees featuring the slogan, ‘Factory Hot Rods – Wheel Up Action’.
Year 1964 will forever remain the time that generated greatest excitement on and off the drag racing tracks. As is well known, the new Hemi cars won the top three spots at the Daytona 500 in 1964. The Plymouths and Dodges went on to set up new records across the US. Wheel base altered cars were also introduced in 1964, and by next year had adopted the Hemi engine.
Hemi car races were seen by factories as part of a strategy to ‘race on Sunday, sell on Monday’. Their honest intent was however to top the NASCAR 1964 Daytona 500. The lightweight cars were known as A864 package factory Hemi race cars, and were the handiwork of The Ramchargers car club formed by Chrysler employees and engineers. The new T-shirts feature the ad slogan often used to promote the drag race wars – ‘Factory Hot Rods Wheels Up Action’. Other slogans that were popular were ‘Sunday, Sunday, Sunday’ and ‘Big Feature Match Race For The Number One Spot In The Nation’.
“This shirt is one of the many tribute shirts we have to celebrate the era. It’s also a tribute to The Ramchargers engineers and car club,” says a spokesperson from Quarter Mile Addiction.
