-- Assure Wellness Group, a medical and wellness center in Chesapeake, VA, has expanded their services to include bioTE® Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, or BHRT. An alternative to traditional hormone therapy replacement, the treatment makes use of bioidentical hormones instead of synthetic. It can be administered to both men and women via hormone pellets, which mimic the body’s natural hormone producing process.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has long been prescribed primarily to address menopausal symptoms in women, including hot flashes, mood changes, sleep problems, and others. In recent years, they have also been made available to men looking to alleviate the symptoms of andropause, or male menopause, such as fatigue, low sex drive, irritability, and others.
The newly updated BHRT service is a newer form of hormone replacement therapy that may be administered to both men and women, mainly to address the symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Studies published in PubMed.gov in 2015 have shown that BHRT is used by an estimated one million to 2.5 million women over the age of 40 in the United States.
What differentiates BHRT service launched by the Assure Wellness Group from traditional HRT is the use of bioidentical hormones, which are plant-derived hormones identical to the hormones the human body produces. The bioTE® method uses hormone pellets that are custom-compounded based on individual clients’ cases.
The pellets are implanted under the client’s skin at least three times a year, and are gradually absorbed by the body, mimicking the natural way the body produces and uses hormones.
According to a spokesperson for Assure Wellness Group, “Dosages for BHRT pellets are prescribed on a case to case basis. We look at the whole person before treatment begins, including blood work, health history, and how you’re feeling.”
The medical and wellness center says the first step in the therapy is a simple blood test, followed by a private consultation with the client where their blood test results, health history, goals, and general condition will be discussed. Bioidentical hormone pellets are then designed and customized according to the client’s needs.
