-- Caterina’s Club, the nonprofit founded by Sir Bruno Serato to feed children in need, help families secure permanent housing and train at-risk youth for careers in the hospitality industry, marked the serving of its 12 millionth meal with a special event at his historic Anaheim White House Italian Steakhouse. The honored guests, selected from among the nearly 4,000 children Caterina’s Club feeds each day, enjoyed a handcrafted pasta supper and homemade dessert.
“It seems like only yesterday that we commemorated our 20th anniversary, and now we have another extraordinary milestone to mark,” said Serato. “What better way to celebrate than by hosting some of the young people we are privileged to feed every day?”
Located near Disneyland, the Anaheim White House is housed in a historic landmark mansion dating to 1909 and has become a favorite destination for tourists, local residents and visiting dignitaries. Its guests have included prominent figures from the worlds of entertainment, sports and politics, among them Madonna, David Beckham, Gwen Stefani, Andrea Bocelli, Wolfgang Puck, Derek Jeter and Oscar De La Hoya, as well as several U.S. presidents and members of royalty.
Serato founded Caterina’s Club in 2005 in honor of his mother who is the nonprofit's namesake. His humanitarian work has received international media attention, including profiles in People magazine and appearances on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” “Access Hollywood,” “CBS Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News.”
His many honors include being named a CNN Hero; receiving knighthoods from the Italian government and the Royal House of Savoy; receiving the Ellis Island Medal of Honor; earning a papal blessing from Pope Francis; and accepting a humanitarian award presented on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Serato has also received numerous proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition, all of which he accepts to help raise public awareness of Caterina’s Club and its mission.
